Law Writing Guide
Why Law?
When writing your personal statement it is important to remember the reasons why you have chosen to study law, and these must be clearly demonstrated in your personal statement.
Already know your area of speciality?
It is always good to demonstrate a unique event or commitment, that backs up your key reasons for specialising in a particular area of law. For example you may have worked for St Johns Ambulance or even for the Citizens Advice Bureau and through these experiences you have been exposed to real life injustices that you would like to put right.
Not sure about your area of speciality
To discuss in general the legal system is a sure way to show a mature commitment to studying law. Generally, the first academic year of a law degree will focus on building basic understanding of the legal system. However, if you are applying for a more specialist legal course, admission officers will be seeking more concentrated goals and aims.
It is important to remember that admission officers are more interested in your personal qualities and skills that make you a good student, rather than what you are planning to do once the course is over.
