My ambition to become an scientist has its origins in my A-Level studies, where I found the greater scope for personal input into my work helped me focus to a far greater extent on my professional aspirations. During my gap-year I worked for a pharmaceutical company, I had the opportunity to work closely with a number of scientists in a variety of contexts, gaining a greatly enhanced perspective on the field. Biochemistry is the course that I have been looking into as it integrates the two sciences that I most enjoy. This would allow me to follow my dreams, by learning how different mechanisms in the body react to or are affected by certain chemicals.Throughout high school, I have explored my interests, especially in dance and music. By participating in these extracurricular activities, I have discovered the true meaning of time-management, and dedication. Spending a mass amount of time on both activities during the week, I was forced to adopt the skills required to keep a balanced lifestyle, and allotted time for my academics, extracurricular activities, family and friends. Many have told me that my determination has been the quality that has kept my engine going through these years. In my spare time I have been involved in a band, and was elected Band Head for the local parish church. Having this leadership position has helped me realise my strengths and weaknesses, and allowed me to shape the music program to play a bigger role in my community.
The reason for my special interest in studying science at a British University is my love for absorbing different cultures. I have had the great opportunity to visit Japan on a school exchange. It was there that I learned that I loved to travel. Five years ago, I had the chance to visit Birmingham, England, and I must say that I loved everything about it: the culture, and the atmosphere more specifically. I feel that I am fully prepared for the opportunities that British universities offer, and I hope that this experience will bring me one step closer to the future I envision for myself.
